EASTERN suburbs residents will soon have better access to specialist services with work starting on a new specialist centre and day surgery in Midland.

Health Integra managing director Vasantha Preetham said the eastern corridor and the Wheatbelt region had continued to suffer from a lack of access to specialist services.

Dr Preetham said unmet demand for these services would become more acute as the population grows and ages.

“The Midland Specialist Centre and Day Surgery building joins an investment of approximately $1bn in infrastructure within a 1km radius in the medical precinct in Midland,” she said.

“The 6000sq metre building will house state-of-the-art specialist medical and surgical facilities and will be located on the corner of Centennial Place and Yelverton Drive.”

Construction of the facility has been awarded to Pindan.
