Within seconds, he knew: it was an Unidentified Flying Object.

York resident Nicholas D’Arcy-Walker was travelling home along Great Eastern Highway last week when he first noticed the strange light in the sky.

Determined to get a better look, he pulled over into a car park near Nichols Street, in Mundaring.

As he watched, Mr D’Arcy-Walker said the UFO changed shape from oval to oblong as lights on the top and bottom of the craft became more visible.

‘They looked like glace cherries and emitted a strange glow,’ he said.

Mr D’Arcy-Walker took out his mobile phone and began filming. He spent the next two hours witnessing the spectacle.

Four of the films have been posted on the internet site Youtube. The clearest of the quartet quickly received more than 330 hits from UFO buffs around the globe.

Mr D’Arcy-Walker said he acknowledged many people would be sceptical of his experience, but he said he knows what he saw.

‘A lot of people will think this is airy-fairy stuff, but it’s not,’ the 60-year-old said. ‘I could see it clearly and in detail’
