The Canberra-based job-seeking consultant is currently running a series of free ‘Get That Job’ weekly workshops at City of Swan libraries.

‘There are traditional ways to look for work and then there’s the hidden jobs market, which is where I focus,’ Mr Baran said.

‘I have helped more than 10,000 people into work in the past 20 years and in that time I have discovered about 70 to 80 per cent of jobs are hidden.

‘What’s more, only 15 per cent of people are looking for work in the hidden jobs market.’

The recruitment specialist, who is also a qualified drug and alcohol worker, said his ‘tried and tested’ job search methods were based on his experience in training and employment services.

Mr Baran said he had also provided training to jobseekers at rehabilitation centres, in prisons and to remote indigenous communities.

The four weekly workshops have one weekly session left to run in Midland and two at libraries in Guildford, Ballajura, Altone Park, Ellenbrook and Bullsbrook.

‘One of the best ways to find work in the hidden jobs market is to call or visit any potential employer and I encourage jobseekers to target small companies first,’ Mr Baran said.

‘There are three jobs out there for everyone looking in the hidden jobs market; you just need to know how and where to look.’

More than 75 jobseekers attended the first weekly sessions, with all four workshops fully booked in Midland, but places are still available at participating libraries for the remainder.

The last session will look at one-on-one job search strategies and staying employed. Call to book a place on the course at the following libraries: Guildford today from 4.30pm to 6.30pm, Ballajura tomorrow, 5pm to 7pm, Altone Park on Thursday, 5pm to 7pm, Ellenbrook on Saturday 12.30pm to 2.30pm and Bullsbrook on Saturday 9.30am to 11.30am.
