Group chair Diana Rosman said volunteers had been educating thousands of people in astronomical and scientific matters since 1996.

Volunteering WA chief executive Tina Williams said Perth Observatory volunteer hours last year were valued at nearly half a million dollars.

“This is a massive contribution to Western Australia,” she said.

“About 7500 members of the public were inspired by the heavens, science and history when attending events run by the Perth Observatory Volunteer Group. These stellar ambassadors for science, astronomy and history in WA do an amazing job.”
