Police on the hunt for arsonist

DETECTIVES are searching for an arsonist believed to have set fire to a Midland property and caused an estimated $250,000 in damages.

Emergency services were called to a fire at a vacant premise on Spring Park Road at 3.30pm on Monday.

Police believed a bin on the veranda was set on fire, which spread to the roof space before engulfing the whole building in flames.

The fire was contained about an hour later and caused an estimated $250,000 in damages.

Police said a number of people and vehicles were nearby at the time of the fire.

Arson Squad detectives are investigating the fire and urge anyone who saw suspicious activity or has dash cam footage of the area at the time to come forward.

Rewards of up to $50,000 are available for information which leads to apprehension and subsequent conviction of an arsonist.
