PREMIER Colin Barnett was in Midland this morning for a Cabinet meeting with colleagues in the Town Hall and a number of new announcements.
Mr Barnett met with members of the Swan Chamber of Commerce for a breakfast and local government representatives and said he was delighted to work with such a pro-active community.
“The Hospital opened one year ago in Midland and it is great to see how well-used it is and it now employs 1600 people in the area,” he said.

READ NOW“We will be announcing the opening of the Curtin University Medical School and this will be Perth’s third medical school to offer nursing, physiotherapy, sciences and other related courses and it will commence the construction mid-next year.
“The Swan Valley is the jewel in the crown of the Perth tourism market and the area should be developed and promoted for future industry.”
Mr Barnett said he hoped the City of Swan would work closely with the State Government to beautify the Swan Valley and make it presentable for tourism in the future.
“It’s close to the airport and bit by bit the government is trying to repeal legislation which is tied up in red tape because we want to remove these unnecessary blocks to developing new business,” he said.
Swan Chamber of Commerce Vice President Graeme Harris said he was excited to see a 30-year vision come to fruition in the area.
“If we can just build a bridge across the Hazelmere area which is vital to expand the region and this can be a priority it will help local business enormously,” he said.
The Premier also flagged the possibility of considering a number of government agencies that could be moved to the Midland region like country health services that would add to the future growth of the area.
