Public meeting held to discuss Midland Oval Redevelopment Master Plan

A MEETING to discuss the proposed Midland Oval Redevelopment Master Plan was held last night at the Midland Town Hall.

Swan Mayor Mick Wainwright said the public meeting was called after the City received a petition and letter of request from the public.

“While the petition we received did not meet the requirements to initiate a special electors meeting, the Council decided to hold a public meeting as this is obviously an important issue for the community,” he said.

The meeting began with a presentation from the City, which took the crowd through the latest version of the Master Plan, and the history of the project.

Residents were then given the chance to ask questions, address the council and propose motions for consideration.

Cr Wainwright said the meeting was a good opportunity for the council to hear from a passionate cross section of the community.

“There were over 90 registrations for the meeting and I would estimate over 100 attendees which is a great result,” he said.

Minutes from the meeting will be published on the City’s website and available to the public in the next 10 days.

“A report on the motions that were proposed at the meeting will then be submitted to council to consider at the Ordinary Council Meeting on 14 December 2016,” Mayor Wainwright said.

“Until that time the City and council cannot comment on any recommendations or views regarding the motions presented at the public meeting.”
