Reprieve likely for ratepayers in Perth’s east

RATEPAYERS will be given a reprieve with the City of Swan tipped to deliver its lowest rates increase in a decade.

For 2019-20, a rates increase of just 1.3 per cent has been proposed, which would equate to an increase of just $20 for the average residential property.

Swan chief executive Mike Foley said the City was mindful of the difficult economic conditions.

“In line with advertised rates, an average increase for a residential property within the City of Swan that has a gross rental value of $20,000 would be approximately $20,” he said.

“The proposed residential minimum increase is $10, from $880 in 2018-19 to $890 in 2019-20.”

Ratepayers in The Vines will pay an annual levy of $196.25 to reinstate community security patrols in the suburb.

Meanwhile Landgate has advised about 600 properties in Bullsbrook may be affected by contaminated soil and water from the use of fire-fighting foams at RAAF Base Pearce.

More than 100 of the properties are expected to decrease in value by an average of 51 per cent over the next financial year which could result in a rate reduction of $290,000 during 2019-20.

The City of Kalamunda has proposed a rate increase of two per cent.

The proposed residential minimum for 2019-20 remains the same as 2018-19 at $882.

Local governments must adopt their budget by August 31.
