SUPPORTERS campaigning to save Midland Oval from redevelopment will ride around the oval for two hours non-stop this Sunday.

The Save Midland Oval group said on its Facebook page that “this might be the last chance we have to send a message to the City of Swan that we want to save Midland’s last remaining piece of open space”.

In November 2015, the City approved the sale of Lot 4, The Avenue, within the Midland Oval precinct.

The site was zoned for an eight-storey mixed-use retail and residential apartment building.

Chief executive Mike Foley said the consultation phase provided a great opportunity for the City to listen to the community.

“There is still time (for the community) to send in their comments,” he said.

“After which all feedback will be collated and taken back to council for consideration before the development of any further conceptual plans or detailed designs.”

The public consultation period ends on May 31.

“Midland needs a public park if it is to support urban infill and high-density living,” one post read.

“Once public space is gone, it’s gone forever.”

The ride starts at 10am and will go for two hours at the Morrison Road, Midland oval.
