Shire welcomes funding for local black spots

Hasluck MHR Ken Wyatt and Assistant Minister for Infrastructure and Regional Development Jamie Briggs visited the sites last week with representatives from the Shire of Kalamunda.

A wire safety rope barrier will be installed on Welshpool Road East near Crystal Brook Road in Wattle Grove.

A service lane will be installed near the traffic lights on Kalamunda Road, near Hawtin Road, to provide a 1.5m sealed shoulder.

Between the two projects, more than $600,000 will be spent.

The projects were recommended by a panel of independent road safety experts and expected to be completed in the 2015-16 financial year.

The Federal Government said its commitment to the Black Spot Program meant $500 million had been allocated to fix roads nationwide.

It is hoped the projects will save an additional five lives and prevent 256 crashes causing injury over 10 years.
