St Patrick’s Day to be a busy one for Irish expat and Woodbridge Hotel boss

Justin BianchiniMidland Kalamunda Reporter

ST Patrick’s Day will be a busy one for Irish expat Tom Shorthall.

He will spend the day working at the pub he owns in Guildford.

The Woodbridge Hotel proprietor started working in pubs as a 13 year-old in Dublin.

He worked in establishments such as the Drake Inn and the Brian Boru before coming to Australia 30 years ago a week before Christmas on a 37C day.

“I can’t take the day off and expect everyone else to work,” he said of St Pat’s Day.

He will preside over a day of entertainment, featuring bands from noon and Irish dancing at 3pm and 7pm.

“We’ll have Irish dishes on the menu and the place will be full,” he said.
