Instead of making a long walk or a bike ride, she decided to make a big jump out of a plane to raise funds for the charity.
Ms Brighton said she wanted to jump for the experience of doing something she had not considered before.
“There are two people in my life with breast cancer – a friend and my niece,” she said.
“In one week in February last year, my niece celebrated
“I had a strong desire to do something useful to help. I asked my friend with breast cancer for any suggestions and she sent me the email about the tandem skydive, which I thought was a good idea.”
Ms Brighton said she asked friends, family and colleagues to support the event at home with a garage sale and donations of items were also contributed. So far she has raised $3500 for the event and said she tried not to think about the jump.
“I’ve been putting it to the back of my mind,” she said.
“Hopefully by the time I do the jump, it will be nervous excitement.”
Ms Brighton also participated in the World’s Greatest Shave last year and enjoyed the experience.
“Once I’ve made the jump I’ll feel exhilarated and satisfied that I did something helpful.”
