Perth man set woman, house on fire: police

A WOMAN is in a critical condition in hospital after a man allegedly threw burning material over her at a Midvale home last night, leaving her with burns to 30 per cent of her body.

Police say that he allegedly set fire to a woman, then her house.

The man allegedly threw “burning material” over the 52-year-old woman at her Hooley Road home at about 8.50pm on Sunday night.

She suffered serious burns, mainly to her head, neck and throat and is in a critical but stable condition at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

He then allegedly threw an incendiary device into the home as he left, sparking a fire that caused about $150,000 damage to the home’s structure and contents.

The man, 51, was apprehended by police and taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital for treatment to serious burns to his hands.

He remains in hospital. A beside hearing will take place today.
