The tactic worked and the brewery has claimed the title of Champion Australian Beer for its aptly named American-style India Pale Ale, which emulates previous judge favourites.

The win evens out the friendly rivalry between Mash Brewing and fellow Swan Valley beer makers at Feral Brewery who claimed the champion beer title last year.

Mash Brewing Swan Valley operations manager Karl Smith said the team enjoyed some success with their other beers at the competition but their 6.8 per cent ale was specifically designed to win the top prize.
