Nearer to Nature program co-ordinator Jill Francis said new to the calendar this year was the Paleontologist for a Day event where seven to 12-year-old children could discover interesting facts about Pleistocene megabeasts, follow a fossil trail and uncover the bones of a giant marsupial Nimbadon.

“They will work in teams to reconstruct the giant marsupial,” she said.

“Some children might be surprised to learn that these creatures share many of the same characteristics as some of the wildlife still around today.” Ms Francis said for younger children, Coolangar Dreaming was a great way to connect with Noongar culture in a fun and interactive way.
