Meanwhile, the Prado made a U-turn and sped off on the wrong side of the road, with police saying they opted not to continue their chase.

Shortly before 11.30pm the Prado was on the wrong side of Roe Highway at Middle Swan when it crashed into a Toyota Corolla.

The Corolla’s 20-year-old driver had to be cut from the car and taken to Royal Perth Hospital with leg and chest injuries and people in the Prado ran off.

A police officer, who injured an ankle chasing a suspect where the Commodore was stopped was taken to Midland Hospital for treatment.

Patrols failed to find the people who fled and the Major Crash unit is investigating.
