NIKLAS Geracitano was close to his late grandmother.

The young champion boxer (14) was about four when she died.

As he prepares in Middle Swan for his next fight in July, he and his family are conscious of junior career mirroring some of the milestones of her life.

He won the 48kg State schoolboy novice title this year on grandmother Valeria Geracitano’s birthday, February 19.

Born in 1938, she died of cancer 10 years ago on March 6, 2007.

As fate would have it, Niklas won the 44kg boxing title last year on the anniversary of her death.

He has had three fights for three wins.

The Governor Stirling Senior High School student trains at 5six Boxing and Fitness Gym in Middle Swan.
