Football: Kalamunda starts season with 13-point win over North Beach

Brad WoodgateMidland Kalamunda Reporter

KALAMUNDA started its 2017 season at home on Saturday against North Beach, with the league team recording a strong win.

Led by Sonny Dann up forward early, the Cougars got off to a great start with only some wayward goal kicking late keeping the game close.

Gun recruit Sean Fletcher was dominant on a wing in the 13-point victory, with Ash Bartlett also playing well and Justin Simpson further down in the awards.

The reserves competed hard but were simply out classed by North Beach, with the Cougars losing by 70 points. Cam Embry was excellent down back with Tom McKay providing valuable run through the middle.

A young colts team battled a more seasoned North Beach, and after showing early glimpses of good ball movement, ended up going down by 32 points.

Captain Josh Touchell led from the front with Adam Brescacin the best for Kalamunda.

The E1 thirds team travelled to Bullcreek-Leeming and went down by just 9 points in a tight game, with Daniel Henderson the best player and colt Jasper King impressing.
