LESMURDIE Saints Junior Football Club ended the season on a high with the youngsters playing during the WAFL grand final half time.

Auskick coordinator Paul Kettle said 10 “excited” young members played at Subiaco Oval during the September 24 grand final.

“This was made extra special as it was the last game of AFL football to be played at the stadium,” he said.

“Despite all the rain, as soon as we ran out on to the oval, the sun came out and we played approximately 15 minutes in perfect conditions.

“Our kids did us proud and played with great energy, enthusiasm and most of all, big smiles over their faces.

“Whilst they are too young to appreciate what they have done, this is a story they will be able to share with everyone in the years to come.”

The youngsters included Daniel Kettle, Kade Sanderson, Aaden Kettle, Kobi Paull, Lucas Adams, Lucas Degasperis, Max Hawkins, Riley Douglas, Sean Griffin and Noah McDonald.

Their coach was Sean Sanderson and Lauren Davey was ground helped on the day, while Kettle was the umpire.

Kettle said that weekend also saw the WA Football Commission name the Saints club champion for Auskick in the Swans district, and he received the central conference club person of the year award.

“We are local community football club that began back in 1982,” he said.

“We started out with 15 players – this year we had over 60 Auskickers (Pre-Primary to Year 2) and over 70 junior footballers (Year 3 to Year 6).

“Our kids come from multiple schools all over the region.

“In addition to the 130-plus girls and boys, we have an army of volunteers that work tirelessly in the back ground. Apart from the club committee and office bearers, we have coaches, umpires, team managers and co-ordinators.

“Being a family focused club, engagement with the parents and guardians plays a big part of what we do.”
