Nikita finds her niche

Joel KellyMidland Kalamunda Reporter

The horse-riding, running, hockey-playing swimmer just knew she wanted to win a gold medal for Australia. So it was lucky she found the modern pentathlon event.

Pentathlons combine the skills of an action hero, with swimming, equestrian, shooting, fencing and running in one event.

Nikita discovered the modern pentathlon while watching the 2012 London Olympics.

Nikita has honed the many skills required in her chosen sport and is now the top-ranked youth female pentathlete in Australia.

Next month, she will fly to Beijing to compete in a youth pentathlon alongside the Oceanic Championships - the 2016 Rio Olympic Games qualifier.

Nikita received funding last year to get her to two successful pentathlon qualifiers, one in Victoria and another in Queensland, to achieve her number one ranking.

But now she fears losing the ranking because she can't afford to travel to the event she needs to compete in.

Nikita is hoping sponsors or donors could help realise her dream of winning gold for Australia.
