REECE Chapman had plenty of support during his Barbagallo Raceway debut during the Supercars Championship round at the weekend.

The 17-year-old from NSW had a big smile in the pits after winning race 3 of the Aussie Racing Cars class on Sunday.

The Reporter photographed him with dad Chad Chapman, himself a former race driver, and local mechanics Keagann Van Der Merwe, of Canning Vale, and Nick Tester, of Lesmurdie.

His approach on the Neerabup track?

“Just get clean air and be able to drive away; not get caught behind cars,” he said.

A delighted Chapman said his first place after a 6th and 7th in the first two races was “a bit of an improvement”.

And how had he found Barbagallo for the first time?

“Slippery but really fun,” he said.

He finished the weekend round fifth overall.
