GOOSEBERRY Hill teenager Alex Rullo made motorsport history on Sunday by becoming the youngest driver to win a national CAMS circuit racing event.

Alex, who has just turned 15, claimed victory in round two of the 2015 Australian V8 Touring Car Series at Winton Raceway in Victoria.

His outing in an ex-Ford Performance Racing Falcon for MW Motorsport stunned fans and competitors alike.

“I’m really proud of him,” dad Peter said. “Alex worked really hard for this victory.”

Alex credits his success to feeling comfortable with the track.

He spent two days testing at Winton Raceway weeks before the event. He also worked with team manager Matthew White, an experienced V8 Supercar driver, in Thursday and Friday’s practice.

“We analysed a lot of data from testing,” Alex said.

“We looked at everything I could do to improve my times.”

Alex was on pace from the start, qualifying second and finishing second in race one. In race two, he was a close second and recorded the fastest lap of the race.

In the third and final race, Alex charged ahead to finish first. In doing so, he also claimed the round victory.

Alex’s next race will be round three of the 2015 Australian V8 Touring Car Series at Queensland Raceway from August 7 to 9.
