Third place for Parkerville

Staff ReporterMidland Kalamunda Reporter

Playing against reigning premiers Gidgegannup in the preliminary final at Bullsbrook, Parkerville began strongly and were competitive in the opening term, booting two goals to Gidge’s 3.4 ” albeit with the aid of a handy breeze.

But they could not contain the rampaging Bulldogs when they had the wind in the second quarter and Gidge made them pay, boosting 9.5 to nil to put the issue beyond any doubt by half-time.

Parkerville tried hard after the long break, kicking 5.3 to 4.3 in the second half but by then the Bulldogs were already in cruise control in an attempt to avoid any injuries in the lead-up to this weekend’s Grand Final.

Final scores were Gidgegannup 16.12 (108) to Parkerville 7.3 (45).

Levi Rosolin, Steve Jack as well as Sandy and Ben Shaw were named among Gidge’s best in a great team effort where there were no fewer than eight individual goalkickers. J Kendall headed that list with three gaols.

Ben Littlerick, Jayke Soltwisch and Tristan Vance tried hard all day for the losers.

Youngster Soltwisch, winner of the Rememberance Award for the highest polling player under 21 at the Association’s award night last week, kicked two goals for Parkerville.

Still, Parkerville can take plenty of heart from their third-place finish in only their first season in the competition.

They are building towards being a major contender for next season’s flag.

As for Gidgegannup, they are in to the Grand Final for another crack at Chidlow for yet another premiership.

A dominant force in the competition for more than a decade, the Bulldogs have won five of the past six premierships and not many would be betting against them.
