WACA Premier Cricket: Keaton Critchell to the rescue for Midland Guildford

MIDLAND Guildford and Fremantle are evenly poised after a tight tussle on Saturday, as Jarryd McPhee dominated with the ball at Lilac Hill.

After being sent in to bat, Midland Guildford was in hot water early at 4-11, as Fremantle’s McPhee tore through the opening line-up, amazingly taking the first four wickets.

However, Midland Guildford rallied through Keaton Critchell and Julian Crudeli, with the pair putting on a much-needed 82-run partnership.

At 4-93, Midland Guildford found itself in the midst of another monumental batting collapse, losing four wickets for three runs.

McPhee was the danger man once again, taking another three wickets in a lethal spell of bowling.

At 8-96, Midland Guildford had to dig deep once more, as Critchell and Thomas Gosling helped the home side avoid total embarrassment, putting on an impressive ninth-wicket stand worth 78 runs.

Critchell was eventually dismissed after a tremendous 106 from 204, with 11 fours and two sixes coming from his dangerous blade, with the team out for 183.

Ross Macauley helped wrap up the tail, taking the final two wickets as Midland Guildford was bowled out for 183.

However, it was McPhee who was the hero for Fremantle, taking an unbelievable 7-40 from his 21 overs.

Fremantle responded with 2-34 from 14 overs, setting up an intriguing final day.
