WACA Premier Cricket: Midland-Guildford falls 33 runs short in chase of Melville total

Justin BianchiniMidland Kalamunda Reporter

MELVILLE consolidated its spot in the Premier Cricket top 6 on Saturday with a tough 33-run victory over Midland Guildford at Lilac Hill.

After winning the toss and electing to bat, Melville started its innings perfectly with a superb 102-run partnership between Luke Towers and Blake Reed.

Following Towers’ dismissal for 61 and sitting at 1-102, a flurry of wickets fell as Melville dropped to 4-132 thanks to Midland Guildford’s captain Dominic Sibley.

However, Drew Porter and Ryan Duffield came to the crease and immediately set about regaining the momentum, crunching 74 runs in a fantastic fifth-wicket partnership.

At 5-206, Sibley continued his good form with the ball, helping clean up the tail to finish with an amazing 5-69 as Melville finished its innings on 9-239.

Midland Guildford began its run chase well enough through Sibley and Hayden Cobley, putting on a 69-run opening partnership to put the pressure back on the Melville bowlers.
