Former Wildcat inspires young swimmers

SWIMMERS from Guildford and Kalamunda Districts Swimming Club have qualified for the open and age national championships in Adelaide this April.

The swimmers received recognition and towels for their achievements at a Swimming WA national presentation on March 13.

They listened to guest speaker and former Perth Wildcats basketball player Shawn Redhage talk about competing in elite sport.

During the presentation, senior swimmer and current club captain Jade Mann (17) received a travel assistance grant from Lynley Papineau of Aqua Technics.

Jade has been swimming with the club for nine years and has competed at numerous state championships, four age nationals, and this year will compete at the Open National Championships in Adelaide.

Jade is also a junior coach at the club, passing on her skills in breaststroke.

Other swimmers competing in the nationals include Chris Verran, Drew Mann, Chelsea Exell, Chad Hutton, Hayden Schwinkowski, Gregor Law, Callum Blacker, Paris Jose and Emily Nayler, pictured below with head coach Brett Tongue, and senior coach Carlos Chitao.
