THE Rebel Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) series hosted by the Perth Scorchers at Lilac Hill Park in January has been nominated for Community Event of the Year at the 2018 WA Sport and Recreation Industry Awards.

The sporting event was jointly coordinated by the City of Swan and the West Australian Cricket Association (WACA).

City Mayor David Lucas said he is proud to see the event nominated for the top industry accolade.

“Bringing the WBBL to Lilac Hill Park marked the beginning of a new era for first class cricket in the Swan Valley,” he said.

“Last year’s series saw cricket fans come out in force to smash national attendance records out of the park – it was a fantastic event for the whole community.

“It is great to see such a hugely successful sporting event and the hard work of our staff being recognised for industry excellence.”

Mayor Lucas said he was looking forward to welcoming the Perth Scorchers back to Lilac Hill this summer.

“Lilac Hill boasts international standard cricket facilities and has such a rich cricketing history,” he said.

“We are very proud to welcome the Perth Scorchers back to Lilac Hill Park in partnership with the WACA in 2018/19.”

The WA Sport and Recreation Industry Awards will be held at Optus Stadium on August 8.
