THE name chosen for a beachfront bar in Perth’s northern suburbs reflects the estate its being built in.

The Amberton beach bar and kitchen is due to open by summer at Amberton Beach estate in Eglinton.

The venue, located 16m above sea level, will cater for about 200 people and be close to a fully-fenced playground and proposed recreational space featuring an 8.5m tall lighthouse tower.

Stockland general manager Col Dutton said the $5 million foreshore precinct would set a benchmark for the wider region and could become a popular coastal hospitality destination for its coffee, meals, full-service bar and as a place to host indoor and outdoor functions.

“It is great to see the new beach bar and kitchen taking shape and the announcement of its official name could not be more fitting for its location,” Mr Dutton said.

Bar owner and Tillbrook Melaleuka group managing director John Dawkins said the venue would offer a paddock-to-plate experience with a fun and family-friendly atmosphere.

“When Amberton Beach became a possibility we jumped at it, as we may never again have such an opportunity in a prime location like this,” he said.

“Whilst our core business is to provide great food, beverage and service to our valued locals, we also have an opportunity to create some breathtaking sessions and events.”

Hospitality operations manager Jason Hampton said the venue offered a lot of flexibility.

“From great coffee in the morning, through to long lunches, sunset pints and our farm’s healthy, delicious beef we hope to become an institution for the local community and its surrounds,” he said.

Designed by Simon Paul, of Mode Design, The Amberton will take advantage of its ocean views and the building will envelope the western side to offer decked spaces for outdoor seating.

“These can be enclosed to provide protection from wind and weather, allowing the use of the spaces all year round,” Mr Paul said.

“Vistas of the Indian ocean from the building are framed by the shipwreck, the Alkimos to the south, and the coastal dunes to the north.”

The Amberton’s colour palette and materials have been inspired by its beach environment of weathered and burnt driftwood, the ocean, windswept vegetation and sand dunes.

The building will sit lightly on the dunes via lightweight steel framing.
