Power fact at new Clarkson gym

Lucy JarvisNorth Coast Times

A GYM that opened in Clarkson this month focuses on strength rather than appearances.

Arron Cullimore opened Heavy Duty Gym in early March with the hope it would have “a small, close-knit community gym feeling”.

“It’s not just a normal gym – there are no mirrors,” he said.

“It’s not about what you wear; it’s about improving strength and individual strength.

“Heavy Duty Gym is an Olympic and power-lifting gym.

“The popularity of power strength and Olympic lifting is on the rise, strength being deemed the new ‘sexy’ by males and females alike.”

Mr Cullimore said he had “jumped in the deep end” by starting the Boranup Avenue business.

“I’m a plumber by trade but I’ve always done gym work,” he said.

The Two Rocks resident said he had been frustrated by “the lack of local power-lifting facilities that had a no-nonsense but supportive attitude”.

Mr Cullimore said he had equipped it with the competition-grade gear, designed with safety in mind.

The gym is open from 9am to 8pm on weekdays and 9am to 1.30pm on Saturdays.
