Ravi Sharma has owned the Sangeet Indian restaurant on Davidson Terrace since 2011, and this year opened another – Diya Nepalese Indian Restaurant – on Melbourne Loop.

The Heathridge resident said his chef, Kishan Kumar, was from Nepal and wanted to serve its speciality dishes, such as momos.

“It’s a dumpling – it’s a bit different than the Chinese (dumplings),” Mr Sharma said.

“We have Himalayan curry – it’s a little bit spicy and has thin gravy with Nepalese spices.”

Mr Kumar has been in Australia for more than 12 years, and been a chef twice as long, having worked in China, India and Nepal previously.

Originally from India, Mr Sharma has been a chef for 25 years. He moved to Perth from New Zealand in 1998.

The new restaurant is open for lunch, dinner and takeaways from Tuesdays to Sundays.
