Steve Sharkey (50) entered into the International Natural Bodybuilding Association’s Perth Classic competition, his first competition since 1989.
‘I thought I’d give it one more go before the ‘old man look’ sets in,’ he said.
‘I’ve maintained my training over the past two decades, and then increased the training regime from three to five times per week.’
Mr Sharkey said the most challenging aspect was the diet of porridge and eggs for breakfast, then chicken, red meat or fish with vegetables for other meals.
‘Chocolate I missed the most, although I made up for it ” immediately after the competition consuming several boxes of chocolates that were given to me for Christmas,’ he said.
At the May competition in the Kingsway Indoor Stadium, Mr Sharkey flexed with the biggest crowd of male and female competitors recorded in WA, and won the over-50s grand master division.
The Thrive Fitness business owner said he believed anyone could dramatically change the way they looked and felt.
