Developer Stockland will host the free gardening master classes, with the Great Gardens team offering advice to all gardeners, from novices to green-fingered experts.

‘If you follow four simple rules, you actually need just half the amount of water used by the average West Australian gardener,’ Mr Ferreira said.

‘Using a wetting agent when watering your garden can increase water penetration by 30 per cent or more.

‘Fine-mist sprinklers lose lots of water through evaporation, so try a simple drip irrigation system instead.

‘Covering garden beds with coarse mulch protects the soil and prevents water loss.

‘Adding fine compost and a wetting agent to your lawn will also make your garden more waterwise.’

There will be morning tea at the event, which will run from 9.30am to 11am at the sales and information centre.
