PLANNING for the second stage of Yanchep Secondary College is set to start with the State Government allocating $13.7 million in its 2018-19 budget.

The college opened this year – a year ahead of schedule – with just under 600 students from years 7 to 11 and will expand to Year 12 students next year.

The school currently has science and computing labs, woodwork, metalwork and home economics rooms, 33 classrooms and a gym and sporting fields.

Stage 2 of the building program will include a lecture theatre, performing arts centre, music and media facility, visual arts studios and additional student services facilities.

“The school already has a strong focus on coding and gaming, science, the ocean and the natural environment, and the new facilities will mean students can access specialist facilities for a broader range of subjects,” Education and Training Minister Sue Ellery said.

Detailed planning will start in June and building will start in the second half of 2019, with completion expected in late 2020.

The investment will increase the school’s capacity to accommodate 875 students.
