Prof. Lyn Beazley, Chief Scientist of WA, opened the event by cutting the birthday cake and introduced the activity-filled free Science is Fun fair.

Scitech impressed the audience with its Super Cool Show and Mick Doyle from Science Alive captivated children with his demonstrations.

The Wanneroo/Joondalup State Emergency Service crew demonstrated a 1:1 rescue from the Leaning Tower, while the International Centre for Radio Astronomy Research and Perth Observatory offered astronomy and solar viewing.

A local band complemented the activities, and other activities included face-painting, mosaic designing, rocket-making and launching, mini-golf and a bouncy castle.

Other contributors included UWA, Curtin University, Stargazers’ Club, Tronox and Iluka Mining, with the event supported by Lotterywest and the Shire of Gingin.
