A heart-warming gesture

The students invited the rest of Irene McCormack Catholic College to contribute as they built up a pile of more than 400 jumpers, coats, parkers, hoodies and sweaters which will assist refugees from the war in Syria.

They gave the clothes to Salvation Army stores on November 8, with the organisation sending the donations to some of the 2.1 million Syrian refugees displaced in border camps in Turkey, Jordan and Iraq ahead of the northern hemisphere’s winter.

‘The students showed incredible initiative in this cause and showed that through small gestures, they can create a big difference in the lives of others,’ Year 8 care teacher Ryan Coutts said.

‘Hopefully this will encourage other students at IMCC to provide action in the cause of social justice.’
