About 5000 flock to Yanchep National Park for Cubby Town

YANCHEP National Park transformed into an evolving village of makeshift cubbies last weekend.

Nature Play WA estimated about 5000 people attended the second Cubby Town event on April 28, supported by the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation, and Attractions, the City of Wanneroo and developer Peet.

“This will likely be the most cubbies ever built in a single day in WA and is a great example of just how easy it is to give kids opportunities for healthy outdoor play,” chief executive Griffin Longley said.

“What Cubby Town shows us, is that modern kids love to muck around outside as much as any other generation when they are given the opportunity.”

Activities included nature craft workshops, stories, sing-alongs, rock decorating and flag making.

Organisers hope to hold the event annually, if funding is available.
