C Restaurant’s Alexis cooks up award win

Ms Watson, who has worked at the C Restaurant for a year and a half, also won the Jon Cox Memorial Trophy at the Hospitality Group Training (HGT) awards on August 31.

“I have always wanted to be a chef since I was very young; I always loved cooking,” she said.

“I started my apprenticeship when I was in Year 11.

“I enjoy the meat section the most. At C, we do modern Australian cuisine – we’ve got kangaroo on the menu.”

Ms Watson said once she finished her apprenticeship this year, she hoped to do a pastry apprenticeship, and in the longer term she would like to open her own restaurant.

HGT general manager Iain McDougall said the annual awards highlighted the importance of apprentice chefs in the workforce.

“This year’s ‘most outstanding apprentice’ is Alexis Watson of C Restaurant,” he said.

“Alexis was up against over 50 candidates and won the John Cox Memorial Trophy.”
