Story and picture: Bruce HuntNorth Coast Times

More than 60 residents of the Merriwa village heard his vivid recollection of his time on the wreck and the mysterious happenings that occurred on the ship.

Some of the audience even remembered the Alkimos loading grain at Geraldton in the early 1960s, shortly before she hit a reef a few kilometres to the south, causing hull damage that needed to be repaired in Fremantle ” just one of several events that plagued the ill-fated ship.

Probus Club speaker Shirley Streat thanked 90-year-old Mr Krakouer, a last link to the ship, for his talk.
