Alkimos Primary students write letters to the North Coast Times editor

Lucy JarvisNorth Coast Times

AS part of a recent English class exercise, Year 4 students from Alkimos Primary School sent letters to the editor.

Teacher Jak Wulff said the students chose their own topics before writing about what they believed were local issues.

“It’s all their own thoughts and ideas,” he said.

Their chosen topics included dog poo, snakes, litter, burn-offs, stadium infrastructure, graffiti and smoking.

I believe that Alkimos needs more of a town centre to enjoy the luxuries of Joondalup.

I think that we need more buildings, including centres, sport arenas, play areas and so much more to make Alkimos an amazing place.

There are some nice locations, but further up near the school there are lots of empty plots and nothing has been done about it for a while.

Since those plots are empty, there’s been a lot of litter around them.

With more things to do, Alkimos will be a better place to live in.

Alannah Latimer

I strongly believe they should build an indoor sport centre in Alkimos.

There are no big parks in Alkimos and there are no major sports in the community.

I think they should get rid of the shopping centre they are going to build and replace it with a sport centre.

It will make children more active and happy.

Noah Padda

I strongly believe that people have been littering.

Do you think that people like littering? Well they don’t because it is going into our ocean so we can’t swim with our marine life.

I strongly believe that these amazing animals don’t come here to die, they want to live.

I believe that people litter for fun. It is not funny.

It is harmful to our sea animals.

Did you ever know that all animals think litter is food so they eat it.

Emily Ridout

I strongly believe there should be no smoking in our community at all, due to making old people get asthma, heart attacks and heart diseases.

The person that is having the cigarette is putting disgusting thing in to their body including acetone, ammonia, cadmium, lead, butane, naphthalene, methoprene, formaldehyde, arsenic and nictone.

These can also be found in nail polish, toilet-cleaner, batteries, lighter fluid, mothballs and heaps more.

The smoker can get heaps of diseases and cancer, this costs loads of money.

Zac Aitken

I strongly believe that people need to pick up their dog poo.

A lot of people don’t pick up dog poo and if they don’t pick it up other people will step in it.

It’s not good. People without a dog don’t want to see dog poo on the sand, at the beach or at the park.

Ethan Grant

I strongly believe that people need to look out for wild dogs.

I believe that the wild dogs need to be tamed.

When I walk around the neighbourhood, I feel unsafe because of these dogs.

I’m a dog lover, so it hurts to see this, so please do something about it.

Ayla Carnachan

I strongly believe that the clowns should stop scaring people.

At Halloween, people dressed up as clowns, with weapons like hammers, knifes, machetes and more.

I wish they acted more maturely, not like babies.

Joshua Sebastian

I strongly believe that snakes are dangerous at Alkimos Primary School.

Snakes are extremely dangerous when you are in the bushes.

There are a lot of people that go into the bush.

I get scared when snakes are around. Snakes can bite you when they are angry or hungry.

Jamie Haley

I strongly believe that the people that do the burn-offs don’t tell us before they do it.

If you’re at school and you’re on the oval, or on the basketball court and there’s a fire, people that have asthma could stop breathing or can be sick.

Fires can stink your clothes, it is so annoying when you can smell it every day.

I don’t like how fires are so close to houses and kids can see it and stress out.

Tell us before you burn.

Summer Penman

I strongly believe graffiti should be banned from Perth because whenever people build or work on something, people draw or write on it.

It is appalling to see our beautiful work wrecked by disgusting paint and markers. Don’t be a part of it.

Also, it happens on trains – at least they don’t get away with it because it might be caught on security cameras.

Often, other people hate it so let’s make it a rule – no more graffiti in Australia!

Jake Timms

I strongly believe there is not a lot of stadiums in WA.

I think they should not smash Domain Stadium, because the Eagles should have Domain Stadium and the Dockers should have the new stadium that’s being built.

So the two teams (can) train at the same time.

Jaxon Hoskin Redman

I strongly believe that our wildlife is not being cared for enough in WA.

All wildlife is being depleted because of us cutting their homes and trees down and taking their food.

Most people don’t care much but if this keeps happening, WA is going to run out of native wildlife.

I believe that there should be a Save Native Wildlife Day in WA because if we don’t have wildlife in our world, we can’t live.

We need to be more caring for our beautiful, lovely wildlife in our world that we love.

Please help us save our native wildlife!

Cooper Brown

I strongly believe people are getting slack of not picking up dog poo in Alkimos.

Dogs just poo where they want.

People don’t pick it up and just keep walking.

Dogs poo bags should be in all places dogs are so people don’t become slacker.

This makes our ovals and parks look better.

Lachy Stokes

Alkimos Primary School is the best school ever because. . . the school is friendly and all the teachers give all there time so that all the students can have the best education ever!

We’ve had an amazing start for the first year.

We get fun excursion and the best art, sport and health teachers ever!

We also have choir and school banking organised by our principal Mr Gorton.

Amelia Lau

I strongly believe that dog poo is out of control in Alkimos.

Some people are lazy to pick up their dog dropping, because when people are walking they step on it.

People should be taking responsibility for their dogs, and care for our environment.

Kuich Row

Dog dropping are a problem a round because owners can’t be bothered to pick it up or don’t care so sometimes some people step on it so please pick it up.

Jake Haley

I strongly believe snakes are dangerous to people because they can bite which can kill people.

Also snakes can attack if they feel threatened by people.

Snakes are (endangered) by (predators) like bad snakes.

So they need homes or they will die.

Ashton Kedge

This year in the lead up to Halloween there were clowns in WA.

The clowns were out of control scaring people and kids ,some of them were dressed as killer clowns too.

They were holding machete, knifes, long hammers and more weapons.

The clowns were chasing people and some people beat up the clowns.

One clown got run over by a car, but the clown was arrested by the police.

Ella Broadby

I strongly believe that children should watch out for snakes because it’s the active time for snakes to come out.

Snakes are very dangerous.

Snakes can come near parks, bushes, houses.

That is why you should watch out.
