Lucy JarvisNorth Coast Times

ALKIMOS boy Scott Guerini (10) is warming up to repeat his marathon fundraising walk for Telethon this Saturday.

The St Simon Peter Catholic School student will do his seventh big walk on July 2, having started with a 25km walk when he was four.

Each year Scott walks in Southern Cross, where his family has a farm, to raise money for “sick kids and babies” and this will be the third time he will do a full marathon distance.

“Last year’s took 11 hours and 32 minutes – I’m hoping to beat that time,” he said.

“Without the generosity of the community around me, I wouldn’t have been able to raise $100,000 for Telethon between 2010 and 2015. I’m really hoping I can raise a lot more this year with all my walking and the quiz night, markets and raffles.”

His younger brother Damien (7) usually tags along for part of the walk and this year has said he wants to attempt the full distance as well.

The boys’ mother Nicole said it would be a big month as they would hold a fundraising quiz night on July 16 at Currambine Community Centre.

“On July 21 we fly out to Canada for Scott’s first International Walk for Telethon,” she said. “We will hike approximately 82km along the Berg Lake Trail in the Canadian Rockies.”

Mrs Guerini said in the past year, Scott had started public speaking about his walking and life journey to schools and clubs.
