A STREET fair marked the official opening of the first shopping centre in Alkimos recently.

Alkimos Beach developers hosted the November 18 community event to mark the opening of the Gateway shopping precinct off Marmion Avenue, which includes the Alkimos Fresh IGA.

Entertainment included a Japanese drumming performance by St James Anglican School Year 7 students performing their own composition, The Samurai’s Heartbeat.

Alkimos Scout Group held a sausage sizzle to raise funds for the fledgling group, and there were beach-themed and craft activities.

The Turnstone Street precinct was officially opened by ECorp director George Naoum, Lendlease communities WA general manager Anthony Rowbottam, Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts and LandCorp chief operations officer Dean Mudford.
