THE newly formed Alkimos Surf Life Saving Club will dive into its first season with a pre-qualification swim this Sunday.
Founding president Maren Kate Scriven said the club would run its first nippers program in the 2017-18 season, following the success of Surf Life Saving WA’s Have-a-go nippers program last season.
LendLease and SLSWA formed a partnership to start a BeachSAFE community, and a steering committee formed, with Brook Johns, Ms Scriven, Karl Hounslow, Moreena Hounslow, Jenna Hampton, Jessica Toor and Tony Elliot.
The club held its first AGM in September, when Ms Scriven became president and other committee positions were filled by Garry Bunford (vice-president), Melissa Carter (administration director), Ian Smallwood (juniors and youth director) and Karl Hounslow (lifesaving and education director).
Ms Scriven said the nippers program would run from 8.45am to 11am every Sunday, regardless of the weather, although they would alter activities to suit conditions.
“All club days run on Sundays and will start at 8.30am for a club swim – this is for anyone older than 15 to have a swim before the little ones take our focus,” she said.
