Anzac poem win for Robyn

Staff ReporterNorth Coast Times

Quinns Rocks RSL sub-branch president Frank Baldry and treasurer Rosemary Baldry presented the Mindarie Senior College student with her $500 prize this month.

Robyn’s poem, Brave Soul Soldier, below, earned her the extra funds for her further education.

With unpolished boots he pushed through the thick layer of slop. Feet like anchors, rising and falling, making things splatter everywhere. A sudden stumble, a new identity. No distinction between the blood, sweat and tears on his scarred face. No movement, no sign of life. Was this the end for his brave soul? Was this where he finally came to rest? As his mind began to slip away, his body sank deeper and deeper into the bloody, muddy quicksand of life All hope was gone, he had given every last bit there was to give. This was the end for the brave soul soldier. Hatred had claimed yet another life.
