The sessions were part of a land and water-based education program that stems from a coastal safety partnership between SLSWA and the City of Wanneroo.

Covering wave types, rip currents, sea creatures and the role of lifesavers, SLSWA introduced the program last year following the drowning death of Jenon Biwot (13) at Clayton’s Beach in Mindarie in 2013.

The teenager’s father Materno Biwot, who has advocated for improved beach safety and awareness since losing his son in a rip, also attended the Alkimos workshops in January.
