Building site dust-up

Lucy JarvisNorth Coast Times

A GROUP of Mindarie residents say complaints about a building site over the past year have gone unanswered.

The residents, who live near the construction site of a 40-unit apartment building beside Mindarie Marina, said they had lodged numerous complaints with the City of Wanneroo and builder Pyramid Constructions about noise, litter and parking.

The City recently advertised Bristol Lane – it closed when work began in August 2013 – would remain closed until October.

Rick Bartelds said initially residents received a letter that it would be closed for two weeks, then that extended to 12 months.

“We can get to the garage from the back lane but it restricts access,” he said.

Shaun Sturgeon said parking had been an ongoing issue, with people working on the site taking up street parking.

“During the week it’s very difficult to find parking,” he said. “They are supposed to park in the building itself or marina carpark.”

Mr Sturgeon said he was also concerned about litter left by contractors.

Mr Sturgeon said because he had a three-month-old baby, the noise had been very disruptive. A shift worker, Mr Bartelds said he struggled to sleep during the day.

Neither the City nor the building company responded to questions before the Times went to print.
