Butler College given something to cheer about

THE Butler College cheer squad has been growing stronger over the past four years since the school’s inception.

Arts program co-ordinator Corrinne Long said the first squad formed when the college opened in 2013.

“It has gotten stronger and stronger over the years,” she said.

“The students dedicate a minimum of two-and-a-half hours a week to training and perform at various events throughout the year. We started our very first tour this year, which saw the 35 cheerleaders visit and perform at six local primary schools over six weeks.”

Mrs Long said the students were excited to have their first cheerleading dresses this term after four years of fundraising and design development. They showcased the uniforms at the school’s annual dance evening on September 15.

Mrs Long said they hoped to compete in state cheer competitions for the first time in 2017.
