Bushfire warning in Shire of Gingin

UPDATE 5.20pm: DFES has downgraded the bushfire threat.

It is no longer considered a threat to lives and homes because it is not heading towards properties.

Firefighters remain on the scene and there is a lot of smoke in the area.

FIREFIGHTERS are on the scene of a bushfire in Wanerie about 60km north east of Yanchep in the Shire of Gingin.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) has warned of a possible threat to lives and homes near Bennies Road.

A DFES alert says residents need to leave or get ready to defend the blaze, which began near the intersection of Bennies Road and Kooiana Road.

It is burning on the north side of the road.
