SENIORS and teenagers have been mixing as part of a community initiative in Butler.

Butler College has hosted Brighton Estate Residents Association’s over-50s group for its meet-ups since the school opened in 2011.

Recently Year 11 students also started catering for the group’s social meetings through their children and community unit.

Acting principal Barry Rose initially invited the group to meet at the school to ensure the campus would be a hub for the community., and community basketball and netball groups also use facilities at the college. The over-50s group offers opportunities for members to meet throughout the year and provides a social outlet for people moving to the area, helping to reduce newcomers’ social isolation.
