A 36-year-old man has been charged after he allegedly touched a girl inappropriately on a Butler street yesterday.

Between 8.15am and 8.30am a woman noticed a man approach a young girl near the intersection of Lukin Drive and Connolly Drive.

The woman was concerned about the way in which the man was touching the girl – who was later established to be under 10 years old – and stopped her vehicle to check on her.

The man left the scene while the woman stayed with the girl and called police.

Police attended the scene and spoke with nearby businesses regarding the man’s movements.

Extensive patrols were conducted of the area.

Yesterday afternoon police arrested a man at a home in Butler.

He has no relationship to the child and was not known to her prior to the incident.

The man has been charged with indecently dealing with a child under 13.

He is due to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on Friday December 28.

Community News understands a local school sent a child protection alert to parents yesterday advising them of the incident and providing advice to keep children safe, including traveling with company.
