AMP Capital’s Ocean Keys Shopping Centre development manager Jennifer Berrigan said there was a lot of work under way and there had been strong leasing interest.

Ms Berrigan said almost 50 shops would open as part of stage 1, and another 40, including Target, would open in stage 2 in late 2014.

‘The car park will be open shortly before Christmas,’ she said.

‘The stage 1 opening date will be in late March.

‘Leasing interest has been strong ” we’ve only got a few remaining stores that haven’t been taken yet.’

The centre is less than 1km from Catalina estate, a 170ha development where Satterley Property Group has sold more than 350 home sites since launching 18 months ago.

Satterley chief executive Nigel Satterley said the $105 million centre expansion would provide employment opportunities for residents. ‘It’s expected around 200 construction jobs and more than 400 retail jobs will be needed once the extension is complete,’ he said.

Catalina is being developed by Tamala Park Regional Council, which comprises the cities of Joondalup, Perth, Stirling, Vincent and Wanneroo, and towns of Cambridge and Victoria Park. When the shopping centre is completed, it will cover about 37,000sq m.
